- “Debugging”, the process of finding and fixing errors in a computer program is thought to have originated in the 1940s, when Grace Hopper, a pioneering computer scientist, found a moth stuck in the relays of a computer at Harvard University. She taped the moth to her log book and famously wrote "first actual case of bug being found." The term "bug" was then used to describe any problem with a computer program.
